CK USAID ICAN ANNUAL ACTIVITY REPORT
Proper Nutrition
A healthy, productive life requires adequate nutrition. Eating a proper, nutritious diet offers numerous health benefits that keep you mentally and physically well.
We have supported our beneficiaries with grafted avocado seedlings, cabbage, Spinarch, and carrot seeds to prevent under nutrition. The vegetables are planted in the kitchen/backyard gardens for proper management and quick access.
Improving nutrition especially among women and children forms a core component of our nutrition related interventions in the Diocese. Caritas Kabale in partnership with Abt Associates will implement a five year USAID funded program titled Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition (ICAN) program in Uganda.
The purpose of the Uganda ICAN program is to sustainably enhance the resilience of vulnerable households by increasing economic opportunities for poor households, improving nutrition with a focus on women and children, and strengthening community and local governance.
USAID’s Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition Activity (ICAN) is USAID/Uganda’s flagship resilience project which is going to be implemented in eight districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukungiri (Kigezi sub-region), Gulu, Lamwo, Nwoya (Acholi sub-region), and Kaabong and Kotido (Karamoja sub-region. Caritas Kabale Diocese will spearhead the implementation of USAID-ICAN activities in the Kigezi sub region.
Under this nutrition component, we are targeting these results in Kigezi region;
